the exhibit "Magnificent Legacy of the Imperial Court: Classical Chinese Carpets from 1400 - 1750" will open at the Museum for East Asian Art on Oct. 15, 2005.

The Volkmanntreffen will take this exhibition as an opportunity to honour Hans König with a series of lectures in German and English about the classic Chinese carpet and related textiles. Internationally reknowned experts in the field will report on the results of their studies and research, will offer insight into the carpet production of the late Ming and early Qing periods and demonstrate what importance the patterns on fabrics and embroideries hold for the fashioning of the classic Chinese carpet.

For the participants of the Volkmanntreffen a preview of the exhibit has been arranged for Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 from 2 to 5 p.m.

On Friday night, beginning at 7 p.m., Hans König and Michael Franses are inviting lenders and friends to a reception in the auditorium of the Museum of East Asian Art. All participants of the Volkmanntreffen 2005 are invited to this private costume party as "Guest of the Kangxi Emperor " with the obligation of wearing a costume, not regionally bound, but of the period of the reign of Kangxi Emperor who ruled from 1662 to 1723. Please note that you can only attend this party if you have officially registered for it and your name is thus on the guest list of "Guest of the Kangxi Emperor ".

We have planned a dinner for the participants of the Volkmanntreffen for the evening of Oct. 15, 2005 in the restaurant of the Hotel Park Inn Köln City - West. We hope you understand that for reasons of organization we have to order in advance a menu consisting of either a fish or a meat course. All participants have to do their own final accounting for dinner and drinks.

I cordially invite you to Köln for the weekend of October 14 to 16.
