Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Friends,

thirty years after the memorable exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery in London the kilim is no longer "undiscovered", thanks also to the many publications worldwide and the comprehensive and serious work of individual connoisseurs and scholars about origin and expansion of the woven works, to their fashioning and quality of color.

But is the kilim really discovered? Are there no new insights after some misjudgments? Have all questions been answered in the numerous publications and talks in national and international meetings? Where are the roots for the continuing fascination holding the collector?

The Volkmann Meeting 2008 will take the exhibition Mythos Farbe as an opportunity to explore the question whether truly nothing new, nothing unknown remains.

Of special excitement should be the presentations by selected kilim collectors of pieces of their own choice. Each of these kilims will be presented to the public in situ in the section entitled Collectors Present Their Favorite Piece. With this we hope to succceed in comprehending in depth the world of the kilim through pieces already known and those not yet discovered.

The Volkmann Meeting 2008 is dedicated to Josephine Powell and Charles Lave. Their death is a great loss, but in remembering these two people their merit and work with the Anatolian kilim will remain unforgettable.

We have planned a dinner for the participants of the Volkmann Treffen for the evening of Oct. 11, 2008 in the restaurant "Humboldt's 2" of the Hotel Park Inn, Berlin - Alexanderplatz. All participants have to do their own final acccounting for dinner (Buffet Euro 17 per person) plus drinks.

I cordially invite you to Berlin for the weekend of October 10 to 12.

P.P.S.	You can stay at the Hotel Park Inn Berlin - Alexanderplatz which is in walking distance from the Museum of Islamic Art. We were able to obtain special rates available under the password "Volkmanntreffen 2008" at Euro 129 for a double room, Euro 119 for a single room per night, incl. all taxes. Please keep in mind that availability of rooms is not limited until the beginning of October. Thereafter the hotel reserves the right to limit availability unrestricted until Sept. 01, restricted until Sept. 19. All rooms have showers or baths and WC and the breakfast buffet is included in the room price. Please make your own reservations as soon as possible.
